"Schweizer Jäger": Axel, can you briefly introduce yourself and your company to the readers of "Schweizer Jäger"?
Axel Drescher: My name is Axel Drescher, Founder of DDoptics Dresden. I run the company together with my wife Constanze as a typical family business. Our product range includes optical Devices for hunting, sport and leisure such as binoculars, target optics, spotting scopes and night vision devices.
"Schweizer Jäger": What was the deciding factor for you to found your own optics brand?
Even as a child, I was fascinated by the subject of optics. At that time, my parents gave me an astronomy kit, which I was able to experiment with myself. Before reunification, the optics sector was one of the most important industries in the Dresden region.
When, after my Military career When I discovered Dresden as my new home, the optical industry in the new federal states was at rock bottom and many highly qualified, even older specialists with years of experience had no prospect of finding a job. Although purchasing power in the region was still lagging far behind, customers were used to a very high standard of quality.
At the time, we decided to create a Own binoculars according to our wishes and to market it in a small circle among our East German hunting colleagues. The production of this model was limited to initially to 100 pieces and met exactly the Needs of our customers in the region - "Good quality, at affordable prices". And so DDoptics was born!
"Schweizer Jäger": What is the basis for DDoptics' success in this highly competitive market?
The Success of DDoptics I see this as a combination of several factors. Main factors are certainly our customer proximity and the extensive range of services, such as a 30-year product guarantee on all our products. Direct customer contact is not only highly valued by our customersIt is also very important to me personally to incorporate the needs and criticism of our customers into the ongoing optimisation of our products and services.
The The majority of our investments flow not in sales, the Marketing or the Administration, but in the Development of new or improved products. Most of our new customers become aware of us because of personal recommendations from satisfied DDoptics users.
This rather conservative but cost-saving and Customer-orientated expansion policy enables us to take a leading position in terms of price/performance with our products and at the same time ensures that our sales are highly sustainable.
"Schweizer Jäger": Is DDoptics to be seen exclusively as a supplier of hunting optics, or to what extent do you also target other groups of buyers with your products, such as sport shooters?
On the topic "Hunting optics"in my experience Hunters are certainly among the most demanding customers. When it comes to quality and optical performance, there is hardly any willingness to compromise in this very narrow customer segment.

For this reason, the hunting optics sector has been the most important market segment for us since the company was founded. "Schweizer Jäger": Are your products already available directly in Switzerland or what distribution strategy are you pursuing specifically for Switzerland?
Yes, our products are now also available in Switzerland. The Distribution in Switzerland takes place exclusively via selected specialised dealers and gunsmiths. The aim here is not to find as many sales partners as possible, but to ensure nationwide coverage with one or two providers per region.
The minimum quality requirements that DDoptics imposes on itself correspond to the upper middle class of these product segments. For this reason, DDoptics does not offer cheap products for the mass market. It covers exclusively the quality range between good and premium classto which each best possible price/performance ratio. DDoptics is thus offering its sales partners in Switzerland an extremely attractive alternative or addition to their existing product ranges.
