The master carpenter Elmar Kalb produces in his manufactory in Dornbirn Unique luxury suitcases made of fine wood, special glass furniture and everything else that individualists have been wanting for a long time and can't find anywhere else.
Precision work in the joinery workshop
Background to the idea and developments: One day, his graphic designer asked him: "Elmar, I need a suitable container to take my designs to the customer - preferably made of wood." The Development to the perfect case lasted a whole ten years. The problem is that wood is a natural building material, tends to warp and is heavy.
Carbon as a solution
Today, the cases consist of a distortion-free carbon core coated with wafer-thin veneer. Advantages: The Cases are light, very stable and absolute without delay. The next point is the brass fittings available on the market. He doesn't like them. That's why he designs and manufactures his own tiny wooden locks, hinges and sliding mechanisms. All done by hand with a little modern CNC support.
Another problem is the high-gloss polished surfaces. The lacquer must not shrink. It also takes years and many attempts before he finds the right technique.
Project Musician Case
A Soloist with the symphony orchestra asks Elmar to come up with something special and functional for him. The result: he is now accompanied at his concerts by a beautifully patterned and lightweight Pear wood case.

Elmar Kalb likes to be to special trade fairs in the luxury segment invited , where he exhibits his artworks in hotels or between Bentley, Ducati, Smart Yacht etc.
