Background information on the Spanish arms manufacturer Bergara
On the IWA OutdoorClassics 2015 Bergara presented the BA13 Take Down rifle in Nuremberg. We were immediately impressed, as it is an excellent weapon for the mountain hunter that can be easily stowed in a rucksack.
This is a variant of the BA13 model seriescompletely without tools and in a few seconds into three main parts can be disassembled: Stock with action, barrel and handguard.
The company based in the Basque town of Bergara/Gipuzkoa in Spain Bergara is known as the manufacturer of some of the world's best barrels The range is well known in the industry and is offered to dealers or gun manufacturers throughout Europe and worldwide as blanks or finished parts. All Barrels are drawn without cutting using the button-pulling process and made from steel grades "AIS416" or "AISI4140".

The gun arrives well packed in the cardboard box and is held in place with plastic foam elements to protect it from damage.
The first time you pick it up and look at it, you immediately notice it: Here was Everything is neatly finished, nothing is sharp-edged, wobbly or distracting. All plastic parts of the gun are cleanly manufactured, the injection moulds should be flawless - there are no burrs at the demoulding points. What else is striking, how small and handy the weapon is - almost reminiscent of a toy. The 3kg weight of the Calibre .308 Win. fits and is safe also promotes precision.
The non-slip fore-end tapers elegantly and has a nose at the end. There are eyelets on the stock for removable sling swivels. The fore-end can be easily removed using the detachable lever. The mounted Picatinny rail in matt black on the barrel fits very well with the weapon concept.
Conclusion: The Take Down is an extremely cleverly designed, solid and short hunting rifle for practical use. Thanks to the synthetic stock and bluing as a protective coating, it is a climate-resistant, corrosion-protected and robust all-weather firearm with a very good trigger. It was created for daily work on the hunting ground (for function and shooting performance).
Pick up and hold for the first time
The Bergara BA13 Take Down is available with matt black barrel and receiver and available in a black plastic version (with or without perforated stock). The handguard and pistol grip are designed with classic chequering to prevent slipping. The barrel length is either 16.5 (41.91 cm) or, in our .308 Win. case 20 inches (50.80 cm).

But it is also noticeable that the Cheek piece very close to the centre axis of the barrel is located. Presumably a slightly higher AssemblyZF mounts - the most important connection between weapon and optics. Today, gun buyers have a wide range of scope mounts from various manufacturers at their disposal. " More info necessary but when using a telescopic sight of 50cm or more, this is not possible. Lens diameterThe larger the lens diameter, the more light can be absorbed by the lens of the optical system. Glass purity plays a major role. " More info will no longer bother you. With its 52 cm barrel, the Bergara is a total of 82 centimetres long and weighs 3.1 kilograms. The high weight is due to the Steel barrel and the slightly stronger barrel with.
Bergara BA13 Take Down - Opening the shutter

To open the door, use the Trigger guard equipped with finger hooks simply pulled backwards with the index finger. This cancels the locking mechanism and the barrel can be tilted down so that the chamber is free for loading or unloading. The Extractor pushes the cartridge case out by a few millimetresso that it can be easily removed from the chamber.
The Locking consists of a simple Wedge-shaped locking wedgewhich locks positively into the corresponding recess on the hook piece located under the barrel when the gun is closed.
Conclusion: These Locking is simple, solid constructed and should No wobbling at all allow.
Bergara BA 13 Take Down - Trigger system and firing pin
The Bergara has an external tap. Immediately after hitting the firing pin, it springs back into its original position. Safety catch springs back. The shotgun trigger breaks dry after approx. 1400 grams of resistance.
To the convenient tensioning of the tap With the telescopic sight attached, the side Easy-grip bolt with left-hand thread (=prevents the bolt from unscrewing during the clamping process). The tap attachment can be positioned for both right-handed and left-handed operation.
Conclusion: Flawless trigger system. Cocking and uncocking are silent - when the trigger is pressed during uncocking or cocking and engages when the trigger is released, it is even silent.
Bergara BA 13 Take Down: Precision barrels from our own production
The data required for the BA 13 Canisters The barrels used come from the Bergara's own barrel production. The precision barrels are manufactured from the whole metal blank and the twist at the end of machining using a chipless button-drawing process. The barrel is a strong precision barrel. It tapers from 28mm root diameter to 18.5mm muzzle diameter.

From about the end of the forearm the barrel was provided with five wide but not very deep flutes. One Open sights are missing on the short barrel and the thumbhole stock, but 2 threaded holes are prepared to mount a rear sight and front sight yourself. The barrel is equipped with a short MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail for optical sights and a muzzle with a 5/8 inch 24UNEF threaded hole, which is protected by a nut. The Bergara runs have gained a good international reputation in recent years and are sometimes also used in match weapons.
Conclusion: In Germany, the Bergara runs are still less well known - but this is likely to change quickly.
The configuration of the Bergara BA13 Takedown depends on the barrel length:
- The 16.5-inch barrel variants are available in .300 AAC "Blackout" and 7.62 x 51 mm/.308 Winchester calibres, both of which have a twist length of 1:8 inches.
- The 20-inch barrel variants, on the other hand, can be purchased as .222 Remington (1:14 inch twist length), .243 Winchester (1:10 inch twist length) and 7.62 x 51 mm/.308 Winchester (1:12 inch twist length).
Bergara BA13 Take Down: Cocking and uncocking the tilt barrel rifle

As already written, this is the not a self-cocking weapon. In the The barrel cannot be tilted when cocked. It must always be decocked by hand by pulling the trigger and holding and slowly sliding the hammer forwards. This is quick and easy.
The tap automatically returns to its normal position both after firing and after decocking. Safety rest to lie down. This means that a Shot release even when the tap is hit excluded.
Bergara BA13 Take Down - proven production technology: all-steel design - yes, of course!
Well done, that System housing is made entirely of steel! But anyone who thinks that the system housing and other components have been machined from solid steel is wrong. The attractive price of the Bergara is perhaps possible thanks to the investment casting process (lost wax process). Bergara uses this process to manufacture the system housing.
In this process, wax is first injected into precise injection moulds. Then a Ceramic coating over the wax moulds the wax was melted out and then the resulting Ceramic mould filled with molten steel. The result is a cost-effective, highly resilient and dimensionally accurate steel part that only requires minimal post-processing.
Conclusion: The focus on proven manufacturing processes rewards the customer with good, affordable break-barrel guns - or as an ideal second gun.
