Test report: The HUGLU over-and-under shotgun 103 DE in 12/76 calibre - a successful BDF concept at an attractive price
RRP price: € 890,-
Preliminary conclusion: The HUGLU 103 DE is an attractive, high-quality and attractively priced over-and-under shotgun. It is a leading, functionally very well thought-out, modern design and very precisely manufactured.
Over and under shotguns (BDF shotguns) from the major European arms manufacturers are not suitable for the sporadic small game hunters or young hunters unfortunately often far too expensive. It was apparently left to a few large shotgun manufacturers in Turkey to produce these Niche in the hunting community with small game - with weapons that keep up very well with expensive competitorscan.
One of these companies is Founded in 1914, the HUGLU Hunting Firearms Cooperative with 548 members and 450 employees. HUGLU exports 80 per cent of its weapons to more than 50 countries around the world, but primarily to the USA and France, Norway. Lebanon, Botswana, Chile and the Philippines.
We have the HUGLU Model 103 EN for testing the Importer ISSC received. This HUGLU BDF model is characterised above all by its Traditional (but not outdated) design and very Solid construction and Precise manufacturing from. The barrels consist of high-quality chrome-molybdenum steel. They are drilled from the solid using deep-hole drilling, honed/polished and hard chrome-plated on the inside. A solid rib connects the upper and lower shotgun barrels. One 8 mm wide, ventilated rib, which helps to reduce light reflection. is hatched, is located on the upper shotgun barrel, which is covered with a white plastic Flint grain of 3 mm diameter.

A highly Desirable goal in the design and manufacture of Over-and-under shotguns (BDF) is always achieved when the functional requirements for the Bird hunting (wingshooting) through finely tuned Over-Under-Barrels be merged. In our opinion HUGLU with this model 103 EN the level of a Top shotgun ready for production fully achieved.
This HUGLU BBF shotgun design was constructed and fitted with the adapted and robust Boxlock system (another example here) with double Barrel hook or wedge closure (Lefaucheux closure system) and insensitive spiral springs (common with modern shotguns today) on the hammer. Even the most astute critic will find it difficult to find anything about this BDF that he is happy about - especially at this early stage. incredible price - can complain.

PS: The photos were taken after the test shooting without cleaning the gun!
The HUGLU 103 DE Test weapon weighs only about 3.6 kg in total with 2 cartridges in the shotgun barrels. That's just great, because it offers a lot of power for a 76 Magnum load It has sufficient weight for even more disciplined handling and is also easy to carry.
The Balance The HUGLU 103 DE BDF is well distributed. Although it has its weight (for the Pleasant recoil behaviour with 12/76 Magnum no mistake) and even a slight "muzzle overweight", probably due to the 710 mm long barrels with reasonable wall thicknesses. The steel weight is complemented by a denser one, beautifully grained Turkish walnut stock in addition. The dense shaft shifts the centre of gravity slightly backwards to compensate for the heavy feeling of the "front weight".
For optimum handling, the Weapon balance a fixed, forward fore-end gripto maintain a steady swing to the target. Thanks to the solid and stable fore-end, we had no problems with the Remington 12/76 Nitro Mag No.4 - 3.4 mm - with a shot load of 53 g had no problems at all placing the running doublets on the hare at the shooting range. Even the Setback was OK. 12/70 shotshells should be very comfortable to shoot after this HUGLU with magnum experience.
The Huglu Weapon is, as already mentioned earlier in the text, already available on pure more optical Outstanding basis. The Monte Carlo shaft is made from finely grained Turkish walnut to emphasise the shape of the weapon. The butt stock is covered with a not too thick, black and good Recoil-absorbing rubber butt plate provided. The "trigger length" from the end of the stock to the single trigger is 368 mm.

The HUGLU 103 DE has generous panels made of mechanised manufactured (lasered), edged fish skin on the forearm and hunting pistol grip, which allow the gun to be held firmly in place. The fore-end is secured by a Deeley-and-Edge spring lock, which engages in an undercut lug under the lower barrel. A recessed groove in front of the finger lever makes it easier to remove and attach the fore-end.
The Shank has a slight inclination to the right and is therefore ideal for right-handers. All our colleagues who have shot with the gun were impressed by the good grip and fast target acquisition.
Both shotgun barrels have a 76 mm chamber and are threaded at the front for Choke inserts provided. Remarkable: The HUGLU 103 DE is supplied with five choke inserts.
HUGLU BDF - Recoil is not required to activate the second shot

The HUGLU is equipped with a selective single trigger. Both impact hammers engage automatically as soon as the Tilting barrel gun open is recognised. If the "S" is visible on the safety catch, the firearm is in the safe state. In this rear locking position blocked a latch releases the hammer. Moving the safety forwards releases the lug from its blocking position and the BDF is ready to fire.
The Run selector switch is located as an integral part of the safety slide on the top and is moved from side to side (left or right) to select the upper or lower barrel that fires first.
The Trigger works purely mechanically (i.e. a recoil impulse is not required to activate the second barrel hammer). In contrast to BDFs, which require recoil forces to prepare the second shot, the HUGLU fire the second shot quicklyeven if the first one was a failure. The trigger pulls are even and dry. The trigger blade itself is also silver-coloured and has a smooth surface.
The Hammer tension is realised by means of a pair of robust and Precisely fitted clamping slider (clamping arms) on the inner underside of the system box, which are pressed backwards with a finger when the barrel is opened. These tension rods also control the automatic functioning, selective ejectors of the shotgun. A worthwhile function when it comes to fast shooting on the field.
HUGLU 103 EN - Separate ejection of fired shotshells - automatic ejector

When both cartridges are fired, the when opening the weapon Empty shot sleeves from one automatically ejected from the chamber at a certain opening angle.
When firing only one round, the remaining live round is only pushed slightly forwards when the gun is opened (as a support for possible unloading) and only the fired round is thrown out of the chamber.
The Locking system consists of a sturdy pair of "barrel hooks" (two-point holder), which is inserted from the bottom of the barrel bundle into the Tapered locking recess in the monoblock (bascule) - which leads to good durability is likely to lead to a reduction.
The gun is then locked when it is closed using the Running hook bolt which closes the contact surfaces between the cartridge bearing and the bascule in a strikingly tight manner.
The Bascule itself is made from a Chrome-molybdenum forging and is finally finished with satinised nitride surface with the HUGLU logo. The upper locking lever bears the HUGLU logo in gold.
The overall appearance is emphasised by the deep black blued barrels with the silver-plated action which is slightly Scroll decorations engraved by hand is beautifully presented.
The HUGLU is an attractive, light, low swinging and robustly constructed weapon. As already mentioned at the beginning, this outstanding Turkish weapon is currently available for an almost unbelievable price.
In view of the Processing, manufacturing and construction quality of this HUGLU Boch double barrel shotgun, which is remarkably close to guns that cost much more - we can fully recommend this product.
