The device for attaching the scope to the weapon is referred to as a scope mount.

Today, the purchaser of a firearm has a Wide range of scope mounts various Manufacturer available. High-quality mounts are now Technically mature and enable an optimum connection between rifle and target optics.

There are Fixed and adjustable, one- or two-piece mounts, Assemblies for Weaver/Picantinnyschinen or simply for the classic 11mm dovetail bar. The following tube diameters are generally used for riflescope rings: 25.4mm, 30mm or 34mm. Then there are different mounting heights to allow sufficient space between the rifle and the objective lens diameter of the eyepiece.

When choosing the Assembly it should be noted that the Performance and precision of the weapon and the rifle scope only through the use of a high-quality mount can be fully utilised. Saving on installation is a mistake and usually doesn't pay off.

Fixed or adjustable mounts:

In most cases in the Fixed mounts are sufficient for shooting sports - they are also easier to mount. For certain applications, however, an adjustable mount or even a mount customised by the gunsmith (e.g. Suhl single-hook mount) is recommended. Not every mount is suitable for every type of rifle and every type of optic. Gun manufacturers such as Blaser, for example, are now responding and adapting their models to certain types of mounts (mostly from their own production). For others Riflescope models even special mounts are necessary, e.g. as for the Zeiss riflescopes with inner rail.

Many of our hunters use the detachable mounts almost exclusively in order to be able to shoot with open sights if required (e.g. trap shot) or optionally use a second sight (hide hunting - mountain hunting - driven hunting). The target optics come all the way down when hunting - the trap shot will be published via Rear sight and front sight applied.

Requirement for removable mounts:

  • The scope must be removed and replaced quickly.
  • The impact point position must not change even after repeated changes

Perhaps often underestimated: Since high-quality mounts are Extremely precise and complex components with tolerances of a hundredth of a mm, the price is correspondingly high.

In many hunting schools, special emphasis is therefore placed on optics when it comes to weapons. The saying: "Never skimp on the look and certainly not on the assembly" has its justification.

The mount as the link between the scope and the firearm ultimately determines whether the hunting firearm as a whole leads to the complete satisfaction of the hunter or shooter - or not.

Self-assembly of a target optics assembly:

There are more and more gun buyers who want to mount their own optics. Standardised drilling patterns with screw connections on the weapons make this possible today.

A major advantage is that the owner familiarises himself with the gun during self-assembly and gains experience with the balistics of different types of ammunition by shooting at the shooting range. This may also make it possible for the handling of the weapon to become even safer.

Important: It is always particularly important to read the installation instructions from the respective installation manufacturer carefully before installation. They contain precise information on the right tools and also some tips and tricks for professional installation.

After that, nothing should stand in the way of success.
