Calculation of angular minute or MOA for optical sights
1 MOA (one Angular minute or Minute Of Angle) is 1/60th of a Angular degree.
With a distance to the target of 100 m corresponds to the adjustment by 1 MOA thus an adjustment by 2.9 cm.
Sample calculation for understanding:
The target distance (= radius): 100m or 10,000cm
Circumference calculation: 2 x radius x 3.14 (PI) = 628.31m or 62,831.85 cm
- 1 degree then corresponds to 1/360 of the circumference of the circle: 1.745m or 174.53 cm
- 1 MOA then corresponds to 1/60 of a degree: 0.029m or 2.908882 cm
- 1/4 MOA is therefore 0.72722 cm per click per 100m (7.3 mm/click per 100 m)
- 1/8 MOA is therefore 0.36361 cm per click per 100m (3.6 mm/click per 100 m)
