Binocular test: Hike Kanisfluh with ibexes

Kanisfluh hike telescope test

Tip: Kanisfluh hike from Mellau to Kanisfluh with ibex colony

The as yet unknown hiking tour started on a beautiful day. The Kanisfluh hike starts directly at the car park of the Mellau mountain railways. Along the road you reach the nearby forest - shortly afterwards it goes right directly and very steeply up - to the Hofstätten hut.

The Hofstätten Alpe or hut - an impressive view

The Location of the farmsteads is as ingenious and the view too. Unfortunately, the hut is privately owned and is no longer catered for. There is a small stream next to the hut where you can take a great rest can make. The beautiful waterfalls invite you to linger. When the weather is nice, you can also take a dip - the natural pool is more than big enough for this.

The The path to the Kanisfluh continues just behind the stream. With much Water you have to be careful when crossing - the bridge is no longer there. After that, however, the path only goes in one direction. Very steeply upwards - without interruption. And it drags on until you reach the plateau. But then the first 1000 metres in altitude are done.

On the plateau, the path eases off and continues for a while parallel to the Kanisfluh with a slight ascent to the fork in the path.

At the fork, either walk up to the left (steep again) to the Kanisfluh summit or, more easily, down to the right to the Alpengasthof Edelweiss.

Up to the summit and an encounter with the ibex and chamois

Another 500 metres of steep ascent to the Kanisfluh summit. Once at the top, it's a quick DDoptics binoculars Pirol 10×42 and the Pirschler spotting scope and unpack it after Stone deer (ibex) and chamois to look.
With a little luck, you might be able to see some of the wild animals and observe it for a longer period of time - possibly also a Discover Edelweiss. Known is the Kanisfluh also because of rare and special bird species. Occasionally a Golden eagle over you.
Today is a very good day - the binoculars weren't dragged up for nothing. See for yourself:

After this impressive performance, the descent to the next highlight - the Alpengasthof Edelweiss.

Newly renovated Alpengasthof Edelweiss

First of all - the Visit to the Alpengasthof Edelweiss in Au at the foot of the Kanisfluh is really a MUST.
The descent is a bit of a drag, but at the Alpengasthof you are immediately rewarded with a sunny and cosy large terrace receive. Behind the house there is a Alpine lounge with very cosy coffee chairs.
At the Alpine inn you can stay here for a long time and even spend the night. It has several double rooms, 2 flats and even a Wellness area. Booked is the Accommodation with half board.

The inn has been lovingly decorated inside and out by the owners Helga Diem and Josef Moosbrugger. You immediately feel very comfortable - even in the rooms.
Later in the evening, you can also cosy up with a few people in the Fuchsbau Bar.

The Friendliness of the owners and all the helpers is immediately noticeable and extraordinary. The quality of the food and drinks really makes the palate sing. The evening menu is surprising, as are the wines - you completely forget that you are in a mountain inn at 1500 metres above sea level.
The next day, the wonderful Breakfast on the sun terrace served with a clear view. Like all adventures, it ends afterwards and it's time to set off again to tackle the 1000m steep descent to Mellau after a short climb.

Conclusion: Absolutely recommendable

These Hike is highly recommended for all nature loverswho are good walkers and have a reasonable basic level of physical fitness. With a bit of luck, you can Colony of ibex from close up view. Good footwear is a matter of course. It is also advisable to take enough to drink with you, possibly also an energy bar.

TIP: Don't forget a good Binoculars such as DDoptics and a good camera with sufficient zoom. A spotting scope can of course also be a great advantage.
