Hunters can obviously finally breathe a sigh of relief.
International hunterswhich in France on the hunt often had a real problem: their familiarity with the practice and the Hunting rifle in calibre .308, .30-06 or 8×57 IS were not in France by law not permitted.
Even the 8×57 IRS in the tilting barrel rifle was at times questioned. The reason: it would theoretically have been possible to fire the rimless cartridge from the tilting barrel gun for rim cartridges.
Change in firearms legislation for hunting ammunition in France
This is now over. After a long phase of uncertainty and ever new rumours, e.g. the .30-06 would now be permitted in France, the standard cartridges are now permitted.
The former board member of the Saarland Hunters' Association, Alfred Schwarz, who still has his ear to the ground in France and is involved in the Hunting and weapons law of the neighbouring country, has shared this: "Last year, in the neighbouring country France amended its firearms legislation to that in future (also) Hunting weapons no longer according to their calibre, but according to their dangerousness are to be categorised.
Now the still Pending regulation published about this and on 6 September in force entered into force: "Décret n° 2013-700 du 30 juillet 2013 portant application de la loi n° 2012-304 du 6 mars 2012 relative à l'établissement d'un contrôle des armes moderne, simplifié et préventif" (with 188 articles).
The Regulation names in Art. 2, sous-section 2, 4°, only few calibres for which a special permit is required for acquisition and possession. These are the Cartridges 7.62×39; 5.45×39 Russian; 12.7×99; 14.5×114 and but also still the 5.56×45, better known as .223 Rem.!!!!
All other calibressuch as the widespread .30-06, .308 or 8x57IS, 6.5×55 are now permitted."
