Visit to the production of the weapons of the Company "Bergara" in Spain - Basque Country - Part 2
Series of pictures at the end of the report - below.
After the presentation of the various Dikar brands In the visitors' room, we could hardly wait to see the production of hunting and sporting weapons. We were particularly interested in seeing the original barrel manufacturing specialists Bergara to watch them being produced. Before that, however, we went to the company canteen, where we were treated to a delicious Basque lunch.
The three processes for gun barrel production
As many of you may already know, there are:
- The exact, Machining process of barrel drawing with a chisel or drawing knife (the oldest method) with the Disadvantage of surface roughness.
- Added to this is the chipless cold forming process with the massive Hammering machines, where the many hammers with high external force on the barrel blank with drill hole and place the material on the Internal mandrel with running contour "forge".
- And then there is the one from internally cold-forming, chipless button rifling processin which a spike (button) with the finished barrel contour the barrel inside completely finished. The mandrel is pushed with high force through the Perfectly prepared and polished barrel bore drawn. Shown in the video from 6 minutes.
Bergara has made a name for itself internationally - especially in the USA - with the button-pulling process. All Runs are made from the steel grades "AIS416" or "AISI4140". Many Benchrest shooters use the barrels for their very expensive precision weapons.
Originally developed by EdIn addition to the coating of optics, the glass quality or type of glass is one of the most important quality factors for binoculars and riflescopes " More info Production technology acquired from Shilen (USA) has been Bergara further developed and refined and production machines were adapted to the special requirements of Bergara. In the meantime 3 button-pulling machines in multi-shift operation 7 days a week and there will be Over 200,000 gun barrels mounted in their own hunting and sporting weapons (around 70,000 per year) or to other weapon manufacturers delivered to the USA.
Own hunting and sporting weapon development and weapon production at Bergara
As already mentioned in Part 1 of the report Dikar - Bergara "Creativity and Innovation" important company values. Presumably the Bergara EngineersIf we can make barrels, then we might as well make the best ones. Developing hunting and sporting weapons and produce. Well thought out and well made, there is now a whole repertoire of models available to buy.
The production of the The main components and assembly take place in Bergara. The shafts are supplied by partners - but the tools are owned by Bergara. A small proportion of the components come to Bergara as semi-finished products and are produced there in the production department ready for assembly. Everything else is manufactured in-house in order to Maximum independence to preserve it.
At the end of production, the weapons are assembled and all functions and settings are tested.
The final weapons test - own 100-yard shooting range and indoor firing range
Independence is always better! After long negotiations with the Spanish authorities authorised Bergara to build its own shooting tunnel and the time-consuming testing of the weapons with the many journeys to the official shooting range were history.
For example, each Bergara B14 on the shooting range with 3 rounds of standard ammunition tested in the respective calibre. The Minimum spreading circle is 25 mm. The proof sheet is also handed over to the customer. If the grouping circle is above this, the gun is returned to the assembly department and checked carefully.
We ourselves have the 3-piece firing of B14 HMR Weapons seen - with Spreading circles of 13 mm - remarkable shooting performance of the barrel and the Bergara gun.
Then, at intervals, a official employee of the authority and accompanies the firing and also picks it up. We were also able to inspect the system.
